Police: Heist Leads Three Police Departments on Chase

Police are still searching for suspects after three departments couldn't locate two men believed to stolen $5,000 in refrigeration equipment. The arrest information was supplied by the Fenton Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Police are still searching for two men after a reported larceny of scrap metal and refrigeration equipment led to three police departments chasing two suspects into the woods last week.

Chief Rick Aro said owners of L. J. Rolls Refrigeration, 1490 Torrey Road in Fenton, reported observing two men in a blue Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck leaving their business with several metal items.

The owners told police around 12:30 p.m. May 29 they followed the truck south on Torrey Road and then onto northbound U.S. 23.  The business owners reported the people in the truck appeared to notice they were being followed and began to speed up and slow down. The owners then told police the driver of the truck tried to turn around at a high rate of speed in the authorized vehicle turnaround on U.S. 23 near the rest area. They said the truck lost control and became stuck in the median.

Aro said officers from the Argentine Police Department, who happened to be in the area, witnessed the men running across the southbound lanes of U.S. 23, across North Road and into a wooded area. Officers from the Argentine Police Department, Fenton Police Department and Genesee County Sheriff’s Office searched for the men unsuccessfully.

Aro said police are still searching for the two men.

“We are hoping to develop some suspects,” Aro said. “We have several eye witnesses.”

Aro said the business owners reviewed surveillance footage and found the truck had made several stops at the business that day. He added that it is estimated the reported suspects took $5,000 worth of refrigeration equipment.
