Residents Saddened Over Loose Senior Center Fire

Two of the main buildings of the facility have been considered a total loss.

The Loose Senior Center caught fire Friday, destroying the two main buildings of the popular facility.

The center had daily activities for its nearly 4,000 members.

A burnt stench lingered in the air Saturday around the center, which has many doors and windows boarded up and has been roped off by police tape.

Fenton Patch posted the news on its Facebook Page and quickly received many posts from concerned residents.

Ashlee Fay said, "Oh no! Glad to hear everyone is ok!"

Erica Peabody posted "Wow! That is really sad. I hope they recover from that loss."

Jane Weber said, "How sad... I know a lot of folks depended on that place."

Kathleen Johnson Davis posted, "I hope they will be able to relocate or rebuild."

The Fenton Press reported the fire began in the basement, but the cause is unknown. The article stated about two dozen people were in the building when the blaze began, but no one was injured.

“This is an enormous loss for our senior population,” Linden Mayor David Lossing told the Fenton Press. “I’m just glad nobody’s hurt.”
