Ruptured Gas Line Causes Fire at Fenton Township Home

Residents reported hearing three loud lightning strikes before someone pulled in their driveway and told them their house was showing flames.

A fire caused by a ruptured gas line destroyed a Fenton Township home early Thursday morning.

Lt. Tom Howley said the homeowners reported hearing three loud lightning strikes and then someone pulled in their driveway on the 1100 block of Butcher Road around 5 a.m. and told them their house was on fire.

Howley said the two residents and their pets were able to escape without injury.

He said the fire department contained the fire, which began in the kitchen, to one side of the house, but had to wait for Consumers Energy to shut off the gas line before fully extinguishing the blaze.

The fire department cleared the scene around 9 a.m. The city of Fenton Fire Department assisted on the call.
