Two Residents Sent to Hospital After Owen Road Crash

A 23-year-old Fenton man and 58-year-old Linden man suffered minor injuries in crash near Silver Parkway.

Rescue crews transported two local residents to area hospitals after a car crash on Owen Road Tuesday night.

Chief Rick Aro said a 23-year-old Fenton man told police he was driving westbound on Owen Road around 6:12 p.m. in the left lane of traffic when a vehicle made a right turn from southbound Silver Parkway in front of him. The man said he swerved to avoid the vehicle then lost control of his 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier. Aro said the vehicle spun into the eastbound lane of Owen Road where it struck a Chevrolet van driven by a 58-year-old Linden man.

Rescue crews took the Fenton man to Hurley Hospital, while the Linden man was transported to Genesys Regional Medical Center. Both had minor injuries and both were wearing seat belts. Aro said the Linden man also had a passenger in his vehicle, but she was not injured.

Police and witnesses were unable to identify the tan van the Fenton man told police pulled out in front of him.

This must have been the reason for all of the sirens. Most I've ever heard at one time! Hope everyone is okay.

I saw the aftermath while going through town. There have been too many accidents at this intersection, I wish the city would install lights similar to Kalamazoo. They have lengthy green arrows and signs the tell right hand turning lane to stop during the green arrow & the light change sequence is the same each to erase confusion...I also wish people would slow down & drive with caution. People's health & lives are something we should be careful with.

The city will tell you, however, that our traffic engineer, Pete LaMorie, thoroughly inspected that area back in the day, and deemed it safe.

The supposed synchronized traffic signal system on Owen/Shiawassee is bunk. $750,000 and traffic still gets snarled up at Rounds Road interchange with no one there but Owen Road traffic? Ever been at that same light at 7am during the week with all the westbound student, parent and bus traffic trying to turn left? The light heading westbound Owen at Target turns green before the light at the highway ramps turn green causing a massive stackup. You can't fix stupid -- stupid people with psychotic driving habits -- but the traffic lights in this town leave much to be desired in the common sense department.
