US 23 Road Rage Incident Results in Gunfire

Police say man who fired gun stopped near Runyan and White Lake Roads.

Police confiscated a man's gun and Concealed Pistol License (CPL) after the weapon was dischared in a road rage incident on June 22 on North U.S. 23 near Highland Road in Hartland Township, police said.

Police said a man in a red truck told police that as he was traveling north on US-23 behind a blue Honda at 70 miles per hour (the unposted speed limit), the driver slammed on his brakes, forcing the man to swerve off the road onto the left shoulder to avoid hitting the car in front of him and traffic. Police said the man told them he heard a loud bang when he came alongside the Honda and saw the driver waving his hand around. The man told police he called 911 and immediately went to at the request of dispatch.

Police said the man driving the Honda stopped at the request of dispatch near Runyan Lake and White Lake Roads and told police that his Glock gun was in the center console, with the clip removed. The man told police he was driving down North US-23 when the red truck began to drive aggressively behind him, so he let off the gas, but did not slam on his brakes, police said.

The man told police the truck almost hit him from behind, then drove to the left of his car on the shoulder when he feared for his safety and that of his son's who was in the passenger seat, police said. The man told police he pulled out his gun and fired one shot towards the ground to scare the truck off.

Police said possible criminal charges could be pending.

Both drivers sound like they need anger management classes. If I was the Judge, I'd throw them both in jail overnight to thing about their bad behavior.

Way Way too close to home for me!!! I live right on the corner of White Lk. and Runyon Lk. Rd. It amazes me as to what can set people off. People need to slow down and think before they act!

Scary stuff!

What is really scary is trying to drive the speed limit. People don't like it so they drive 3 inches of your rear trying to push you into going faster. Police need to start ticketing drivers for tailgating. If they did the road rage incidents would drop dramaticly.

@buster moop - Get out of the left lane if you want to drive the speed limit. It is for passing, not casually cruising.

Should anyone who is prone to acting out to road rage in a manner that could injure others really even have a drivers license?

I was on the highway same place and had a man on a crotch rocket point a gun at me while still driving forward and myself behind him. It has shaken me to the core. I did flip him off due to his reckless driving but I did not deserve to have a gun pulled at me
