Annual Shiawassee River Clean-up in Fenton is a Success
Longtime coordinator Cheryl King will pass leadership on to Brad Jacob for next year's event.
The recent was successful with 24 volunteers, and next year it will have a new coordinator. Mayor Pro Tem said, after 24 years, she is passing the reins to Councilman Brad Jacob.
She appreciates the community's assistance over the years with the annual Shiawassee River clean-up, King said. This year's sponsor was on North Leroy Street, which supplied T-shirts for the clean-up volunteers and food.
The on Silver Lake Road donated ice, the Fenton Department of Public Works supplied a truck, the served doughnuts for the volunteers' breakfast, supplied refreshments, and donated gloves for the volunteers.

The clean-up, which took place on Saturday, June 23, resulted in a TV and VCR being pulled from the river near a bridge, said Councilman Ben Smith.
In past years, a bank safe was found under the water, King added. Because of years of annual clean-ups, the river is getting cleaner and volunteers are finding less items.
