City of Fenton to be Honored at Pistons Game

It's part of the Pistons' Come Together Community program; Fenton volunteers and city staff to attend.

The city of Fenton will make an appearance on the big screen at the Palace of Auburn Hills at the Detroit Pistons basketball game on Wednesday as the team battles the Miami Heat.

The municipality will be honored as part of the Pistons' Come Together Community program, which celebrates community champions from cities across Michigan, according to the the team's website. Each municipality in the program receives up to 100 tickets to a Detroit Pistons home game to recognize individuals and groups for their achievement, service to the community and leadership through volunteerism.

City Councilwoman Pat Lockwood announced Fenton's participation in the program at Monday's council meeting. Members of Fenton's department of public works, fire and police departments and other city staff received tickets, along with volunteers and members of local nonprofits. Volunteers who work with the Fourth of July event will be among them.

During the Pistons game on Wednesday, photographs from around the city of Fenton will be shown on the scoreboard, Lockwood said. Pictures of downtown Fenton, the Fenton Gazebo, and and other locations were taken on Monday for this.

It's a neat opportunity to let residents and the state know how important Fenton is, Lockwood said.

The Pistons' season-long program provides participants in attendance with a parking, merchandise and food and beverage package for the game, plus a certificate thanking them for their participation, the website said.

Community groups and civic leaders from more than 15 municipalities including Allen Park, Attica, Commerce, Fenton, Fort Gratiot, Laingsburg, New Lothrop, Rives Junction, Saint Clair, Sylvan Lake, Romeo, Montrose and Hamtramck will be honored at games beginning Wednesday, as the Pistons host the Miami Heat at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
