City Officials Ask Fenton Residents Not to Put Leaves in Streets

It can cause flooding, city manager says.

The city of Fenton has an ordinance against blowing leaves into the streets, and leaves are blocking storm water catch basins, said Councilwoman Pat Lockwood.

This can cause City Manager Lynn Markland said.

Residents who violate the ordinance can be fined by the police department, said Councilman Les Bland. It’s a problem, because once the Department of Public Works does the street sweeping and the roads are clean, people start throwing leaves into the streets.

Neighbors can report others who are putting leaves in the roadways, added Mayor Pro Tem Cheryl King.

They can contact the Protective Inspection Department at city hall, Lockwood said. The department isn’t out to give people fines, she said.

“They have a good way of doing it.”

Those who ignore the Protective Inspection Department can be reported to the Lockwood said.
