Deadline to File as Fenton Council Candidate Moved up to Tuesday, Aug. 16

Mayor's seat is for two years, council members serve for four years.

Because of a change in Michigan election law that takes precedence over the city of Fenton's charter, those who want to run for mayor or city council member have an earlier deadline, Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Michigan election law supersedes the deadline for petitions set forth by the city of Fenton's charter, City Clerk Jennifer Naismith announced. Thus, the petition deadline for candidates who would like their names on the Nov. 8 ballot has changed.

The new deadline is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, instead of the late September one listed in Fenton's charter. Petitions and corresponding paperwork are due in the city clerk’s office at 301 South LeRoy St., Fenton.
