Dominick's Law Supporters to Rally in Lansing Tomorrow

Bill is being introduced into Michigan House of Representatives, to increase punishment for child abusers to 'unprecedented levels.'

Tomorrow, a new bill will be introduced into the Michigan House of Representatives, in memory of Dominick Calhoun, a 4-year-old who died on April 12, 2010 after suffering severe beatings in the Argentine Township apartment where he lived.

Dominick's family and supporters of Dominick's Law are holding a public rally at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, on the front steps of the capitol building's east entrance, the Tri-County Times reports. They will gather on the capitol steps as the new bill is introduced into the Michigan House of Representatives.

The bill would increase punishment for child abusers to unprecedented levels, the Flint Journal reports.

Family of Dominick and supporters of Dominick's Law would like to see stiffer penalties for those convicted of child abuse. A copy of the bill, which was presented to Rep. Paul Scott (R-Grand Blanc) on April 28, 2010, is available on Facebook.

Dominick's mother, Corrine Baker, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and second-degree child abuse for her involvement in the boy's death. Baker's boyfriend, Brandon Hayes, awaits trial for murder. Hayes is accused of beating Dominick to death over several days, after the boy accidentally wet himself.
