Fenton Chamber to Host Meet the Candidates

Public is invited to attend Tuesday evening event, pose questions to those running for city council.

Fenton voters can "Meet the Candidates" at 7 p.m. on Oct. 18, at the Fenton Community & Cultural Center, 150 S. Leroy St. The is hosting the question and answer session, said chamber President Shelly Day.

Two candidates, Councilman Tim Faricy and incumbent Sue Osborn, are running for the two-year mayor's seat. In addition, incumbent Cheryl King, Michael Piacentini, Patricia Lockwood and Leslie Bland are vying for the three available council seats.

"It should be interesting," Day said. "We are looking forward to it."

She said the Meet the Candidates forum will feature a moderator, and the public can submit questions on 3 by 5 index cards. The moderator will check questions to make sure they are appropriate and pose them to the candidates, she added.

The Fenton Regional Chamber of Commerce board will make its candidate endorsements soon after the event. The chamber's Political Action Team will make its recommendation to the chamber executive board, which will meet the night after the Meet the Candidates event, Day said.

Fenton's chamber makes its endorsements based on candidates it believes support a good business climate. Individual voters' ballot decisions are up to them and are likely to include other considerations.

"We are endorsing based on the businesses," she said. "They can make their own decisions weighing out the other issues within the city."
