Fenton Township May Form Dive Rescue Team

The Fenton Township Board is considering the formation of a dive rescue team, following two drownings last year in the community.

Fire Chief Ryan Volz proposed Monday during the Fenton Township Board meeting that six firefighters be certified in open water diving, underwater navigation, low visibility-night diving and stress-rescue diving, according to mlive.com.

Volunteers working as part of the Fenton Township Fire Department would form the dive rescue team, LakeFenton.com says.

The chief's proposal follows the July drownings of Fenton resident West Frescura, 11, who was playing in Marl Lake when he disappeared into the water, and a 25-year-old Flat Rock man who jumped off a boat into Lake Fenton and did not resurface.

The Township Board will vote on the formation of a dive team, which would cost approximately $25,000, at its next meeting, mlive.com reports.
