Fenton Township Trustee Candidate Wants to See Thompson Road Corridor Develop

In the following days, Fenton Patch will introduce to the area candidates running for public office in the upcoming election.

Today, we meet Andrew Marko, Fenton Township Trustee candidate who will be running against newcomer Shaun Shumaker and incumbents Mark Goupil, Robert Kesler and Vince Lorraine.

How long have you lived in the area?

I have lived in Fenton Township for over 33 years with my wife, Lynne.  We raised two daughters here and both girls graduated from Lake Fenton HS.

What community and civic organizations are you currently involved in?

I am currently serving a term on the Fenton Township Zoning Board of Appeals. I also serve as the township's citizen representative for Genesee County's Metropolitan Alliance. I am on the church council for St Mary Magdalene Eastern Orthodox Church located in Fenton. I also take pride in being a volunteer for Reeling and Healing of Michigan. Reeling and Healing of Michigan conducts fly fishing retreats for women in treatment for or recovering from cancer.

Why did you want to run for office?

I am running for office because I feel I have the experience, interest and the time to bring new ideas and energy to the Township Board.

What personal and professional experiences make you qualified to hold that position?

My 42 plus years as a successful sales engineer and sales manager has provided me with management skills that would allow me to assist in budgeting and short and long term planning for the township.

What is the most important issue and what do you intend to do about it during your term in office?

The development of the Thompson Road commercial corridor will be an important issue and I would like to contribute my energy to this plan.

What is your vision for the area, where do you see the area in 10 or even 20 years, and what does the area need to do now to realize that vision?

The next ten years will bring change. That is a simple fact. One constant you can count on is change. I will work hard to insure that Fenton Township is prepared for the inevitable changes that will be coming.
