Pickell Dominates Sheriff Race in Genesee County Primary Election

Incumbent Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell beats out challengers Dan Allen and Tim Johnson.

Incumbent Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell dominated Tuesday's primary polls over Democratic challengers Argentine Township Police Chief Dan Allen and retired Flint Deputy Police Chief Tim Johnson. There were no Republicans listed on the ballot.

With 220 of 220 precincts reporting, Pickell tallied 64.47 percent of the vote (22,496) to Johnson's 21.87 percent (7,630 votes) and Allen's 13.57 percent (4,734 votes).

Democrat Incumbent Jeff Wright dominated Democrat David Stewart in the primary. With 172 of 220 precincts counted around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wright held a 75.36 percent to 24.19 vote advantage. However, Wright will take on another Stewart in November, David's younger brother, Robert Stewart, a Republican.

The Mass Transportation Renewal Program passed in Genesee County. With 176 of 220 precincts counted around 11:35 p.m. Tuesday, it was passing with 65.94 percent of the vote.

Several candidates are also vying to be on the Genesee County Board of Commissioners. In the nine districts, five races will be in the primary.

In District 1 (Flint area), with 22 of 28 precincts counted around midnight Wednesday incumbent Omar A. Sims (69.02 percent) was beating Bob Jackson (30.41 percent).

In District 9 (Davison area) Democratic candidates will be Pegge Adams and Douglas Theodoroff.

In District 4 (Flint area) With 14 of 25 precincts counted around midnight Wednesday Democrat incumbent John Northrup led Chris Del Morone 72.80 percent to 26.52 percent.

In District 5 (Grand Blanc area), Democrat Mark Young defeated Carey Lee 1,349 to 850. Republican William F. Delaney (39.96 percent of the vote) beat out William Roger Buell (11.93 percent), Jon Sheerin (28.37 percent) and Rick Wilson (19.50 percent)

In District 7 (Clio/Flushing area), incumbent Archie Bailey (1,797 votes) defeated Andrew Everman (603) and Kathy A. Ridley (1,590 votes) in the Democratic primary.
