Joseph Graves Will be Republican Candidate for Paul Scott's Seat

Graves, director of operations for Fenton Township's Community Parent, will run in the special election on Feb. 28, the same day as the Michigan Republican presidential primary.

Genesee County Commissioner Joseph Graves has put his name in the hat to fill the state representative position after the .

The Flint Journal reports Graves will be the republican candidate for February’s special election for the 51st District Representative.

Graves told the Flint Journal he was "overwhelmed and humbled" to be selected.

Graves has been the director of operations for . group since it formed in March.

Michigan Republicans have vowed to reclaim Scott’s seat.

“We are not going to be deterred,” Ari Adler, a spokesman for House Speaker Jase Bolger, R-Marshall told the Detroit Free Press. “We still have a majority…and we think that in February we’re going to take the seat back.”

The recall votes were certified Nov. 18 and the seat will remain empty until the special election, according to Michigan Radio.

The Genesee County Democrats are expected to name a candidate soon.

The special election for the seat will be held on Feb. 28, the same day as the Michigan will hold its Republican presidential primary.
