Linden Residents Can Dispose of Prescriptions Safely

Free, anonymous event will take place Saturday at the Linden Police Department.

On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Linden Police Department will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration's “National Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative.”

This event will give Linden residents an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by cleaning their homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs, the city of Linden has announced via its website. The service is free and anonymous.

The event addresses public safety and health issues, since medicines that remains in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Prescription drug abuse is on the rise in the United States, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.

In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines, flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash, pose potential safety and health hazards.
