Silver Parkway Lighting Project Delayed

In order to address possible economic development downtown, the Fenton Downtown Development Authority is holding off on its Silver Parkway lighting project in 2011

Fenton's Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is holding off on its Silver Parkway lighting project this year, in favor of potential economic development downtown. The Silver Parkway project's budget was already cut from an estimated $786,400 to around $600,000, by removing landscaping and irrigation from it.

DDA Director Michael Burns said the DDA has some new opportunities to use its resources that it wants to address, and the Silver Parkway lighting project was in the planning stages before the DDA purchased the former Republic Bank site, across from The State Bank on LeRoy Street. The DDA needed to reallocate its resources to address the Republic Bank site opportunity, where there is potential for economic development.

approved the DDA's request to purchase the former Republic Bank site in September 2010, at a cost of $325,000. The site has been vacant for several years.

Thus, the Silver Parkway lighting project will take place as soon as the DDA has funding for it, possibly in 2013, Burns said. It will take place after the DDA has addressed other opportunities.

The Silver Parkway lighting project, which includes lights on both sides of the parkway, also includes a crosswalk near the Lockwood housing development.
