Today is Last Day to Register to Vote

The Nov. 8 election is coming up soon.

Tuesday is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 8 election.

voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballots for the mayor's position and three City Council seats. Councilman Tim Faricy is opposing longtime incumbent Sue Osborn for the mayor's seat, and Leslie Bland, incumbent Cheryl King, Patricia Lockwood and Michael Piacentini are in the race for the three open council positions.

In addition, the question of whether to recall may be on the ballot, depending on court rulings.

To vote, one must be 18 years of age by Election Day, a U.S. citizen, a Michigan resident and a resident of the local government unit (city, township, village) in which they will vote.

A city, township, village or county clerk can register someone to vote, or applicants can visit a Michigan Secretary of State branch office. A branch office locator is at http://services.sos.state.mi.us/servicelocator/branchofficelocator.aspx.

More information about registering to vote, and the Nov. 8 election, is available online from Secretary of State Ruth Johnson, at www.michigan.gov/sos. The Michigan Voter Information Center has a feature where voters can type in their name, birth date and ZIP code—or driver's license number—to obtain their own, specific voting information. It includes where to vote, voting hours and information on their local clerk's office. Also available are questions they will be asked on the Nov. 8 ballot, including local and statewide issues.
