Voters Line Up Early to Cast Ballots in Fenton

Fenton voters face 20 minute wait for first hour of voting.

Voters were ready to get the polls Tuesday morning in the city of Fenton.

Fenton City Clerk Jennifer Naismith said people were lined up as the polls opened at 7 a.m. and there was about a 20-minute wait to vote. One election worker described it as a “little hectic.”

“We had a lot of people who were eager to get in and vote,” Naismith said.

That wait went down to about 10 minutes later in the morning. Nearly 1,500 ballots had been cast by 11 a.m.

Election workers anticipated the big turnout and had 17 voting stations per precinct when they usually have six or seven, Naismith said. Things had run very smoothly for the first part of the day.

Naismith said she expected a little bit of a rush around lunch time and then a big rush around 5 p.m.

Fenton Township Operations Manager Tom Broecker said 600 people had cast ballots at Lake Fenton High School by 8 a.m.

"We had a big rush and then it's been pretty steady," he said. "Around dinner time we will have high volume of voters."

There are 112 voting stations set up at Lake Fenton High School. Precinct 3 has been the busiest most of the day.
