Fenton Officials Discuss Cornerstone, US 23 Accident Brings Traffic to a Halt

Monday, Sept. 17

Tuesday, Sept. 18

We also had the news on a new outpatient substance abuse treatment center that's opened up on North Leroy Street, in the plaza next to Fenton Furnishings. It's Serenity Recovery Services LLC.

Wednesday, Sept. 19

Fenton Patch let you know about a world famous topiary gardener who will be coming to Gerych's Distinctive Flowers & Gifts in Fenton on Oct. 13 — Pearl Fryar, of Bishopville, S.C. To see a documentary about Fryar and his gardens, check out the free movie on Oct. 10 at the community center.

Also on Wednesday, we shared the which the DDA purchased last fall for development near the future Cornerstone Building. The board decided not to demolish the building at 111 S. Leroy St. yet, in hopes of state funding being available for a future development on the site.

Thursday, Sept. 20

Fenton Patch reported on which has weathered some tough years in terms of funding. Now property tax values that SLPR depends on have leveled off, and the organization is offering 12 new programs.

Also on Thursday, we shared information on the Fenton DDA approving additional funding for soil test borings on the future site of the Cornerstone Building. Soil test borings need to be deeper to make sure the site can handle the load of the building, DDA Director Michael Burns said.

And Fenton Patch had the story on the taste of city water, a subject many Patch readers expressed an interest in. Some people said they like the water, while many more said they don't like its taste. The water plant superintendent provided some information and helpful hints on the issue.

Friday, Sept. 21

On Friday, we had the scoop on Fenton resident Dennis Farrell, who has a new radio show on ESPN 1090 AM — Fantasy Sideline. He talks fantasy football on Sundays, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Fenton Patch shared the news that starting this week, mystery diners Freddy Spaghetti and Tonya Lasagna will provide reviews of Fenton area restaurants. Stay tuned!

Other news on Friday included the Police Blotter, as we shared information from the Fenton Police Department on an intoxicated, disorderly person who was taken to an area hospital on Tuesday.

In addition, we had news on how the Fenton police and the Knights of Columbus are working together to gather of Fenton, who died a week ago responding to a call in West Bloomfield. O'Rourke was a 12-year veteran of the West Bloomfield Police Department.

Fenton Patch also shared the story on which are part of an exhibition that's displayed in Grand Rapids.
