Kids' Day at Genesee County Fair

Free ice cream, free corn dogs and $1 carnival rides are only a few of the reasons to celebrate kids' day at the Genesee County fair Monday, Aug. 15. 

A free corn dog goes to the first 1,000 guests.

Genesee Health Plan's 10th birthday party, which takes place form 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. features ice cream, crafts and prizes.

At 9 a.m. registration for Baby Contest and Tot Trot start, as does the youth pet judging. (The contest and race start at 10 a.m.)

Michigan Masons provide a valuable service with the Child  Identification Program starting at 10 a.m.

Other events that begin daily at 10 a.m. include a petting zoo, Farm Bureau Agricultural Community Exhibit, where you learn about agriculture in your community from real farmers who are outstanding in their field, the bingo tent and MSU Master Gardener demonstrations. 

Celebrate your friends' and neighbors' talents at the agricultural, horicultural arts and science exhibits, which also begin at 10 a.m. each day of the fair.

Free wagon rides also are available. Hitch a ride from the tractor captain as he transports you to throughout the fairgrounds. Shuttle runs every half hour from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

White Tiger Discovery, an educational exhibit that carries an additional charge of $3, starts at noon each day the fair's open.

Also at noon, you can enjoy Flint Institute of Arts Fun Center and make funky flowers, engage in target shooting with the Linden Sportsmen Club or take in the dairy cattle show, followed by the 4-H goat, horse and poultry shows at 1 p.m.

X-treme chainsaw artist Jeff Sequin transforms an ordinary log into a work of art daily at noon, 2 p.m. 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.  

It's dollar day at the midway when it opens at 2 p.m. All rides are $1 today! If rides aren't your speed, perhaps you'll enjoy the hog calling contest, which also starts at 2 p.m.

Ronald McDonald Magic Show performs live at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.; or enjoy Twiggy the Waterskiing Squirrel at  2:30 and 6:30 p.m.

Classic K-9 show shows dogs doing all sorts of tricks; an international show, it's offered at 1, 3, 5 and 7 p.m.

Other special shows include Pure Pro Wrestling, featuring Michigan's hottest professional wrestlers performing daily at 5:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and 9:30 p.m.

Also on tap are a 5 p.m. Community Parade, a 6 p.m. 4-H swine show and opening ceremonies at 7 p.m. featuring the coronation of the 2011 Genesee County Fair Queen. 

Try your luck at Texas Hold ‘Em, Blackjack, or Let It Ride in the Vegas Tent, which opens daily at 6 p.m.

Rev up your engines for the 7:30 p.m.Grandstand Show - Michigan Monster Truck Shootout.

The beer tent music is available from 3 p.m. on, but  at 9:30 p.m., enjoy live music in the beer tent featuring headliner Lit'l Miss Dangerous with special guest 1000 Watts of Love.  

While gate admission to the fair is free, parking is $5 per day or $20 for a season pass.

Grandstand events are $15 per day or $25 for Fair Fun Pass. Note that you must have the Fair Fun Pass for Thursday and Friday Grandstand events.
