Fenton Dips Below State Math Average on Michigan Merit Exam

The Fenton Area Public Schools District improves in writing, but drops in other subjects.

The Michigan Department of Education has released the 2012 Michigan Merit Exam results and the Fenton school district consistently scored above state averages, but dropped below the state average in math.

The test assesses juniors and eligible seniors based on Michigan high school standards.

students scored above state averages in every subject, with the exception of math in which they drop one percent below the state average. Scores went down in every subject compared to last year except for writing as Fenton went from 64 percent proficient to 69 percent proficient.

The school district's ACT average dropped just 0.1 percent from last year from 21.3 to 21.2, well above the Michigan average of 19.4 percent.
