Fenton beats state averages

Fenton Area Public Schools were well above the statewide average in every category as a district, according to 2010 results provided by the Michigan Department of Education. One of the areas highest above the state average was ninth grade social studies as Fenton trumped the state average of 72.8 percent with 86.8 percent proficient scoring. Fenton schools scored 61.2 percent proficient on the fourth grade writing portion, while the state average was 47.2 percent.

Only a few MEAP scores dropped from 2009 to 2010

Overall MEAP scores went up in Fenton Area Public Schools from 2009 to 2010 in most categories, with a few exceptions. Seventh-grade reading scoring went down from 88.9 percent in 2009 to 84.6 percent in 2010. Fifth-grade science dropped from 92.6 percent in 2009 to 88.4 percent in 2010.

Fourth grade reading levels rise

There were some slight increases as well. Fourth-grade reading went up from 88.7 percent proficiency to 92 percent proficiency. Math scores stayed nearly the same except for a small rise in scores for sixth-graders going from 87.5 percent proficient in 2009 to 90.7 percent proficient in 2010.
