Fenton MEAP Results Rise in 2012

Fenton schools improve most MEAP results in all grades and subjects.

Here is a brief look at the MEAP results for Fenton Area Public Schools.

Fenton beats state averages

Fenton Area Public Schools were well above the statewide average in every category as a district, according to 2012 results provided by the Michigan Department of Education. One of the areas highest above the state average was sixth-grade social studies as Fenton trumped the state average of 13.1 percent with 48.1 percent proficient scoring. Fenton schools scored 43.6 percent proficient on the ninth grade social studies, while the state average was 28.6 percent.

Fourth-graders were also impressive. They outscored state averages in reading 85.8 percent to 68.1 percent and math 60 percent to 44.9 percent.

Most MEAP scores increase from 2011 to 2012

Overall MEAP scores went up in Fenton Area Public Schools from 2011 to 2012 in most categories, with only a couple exceptions more than a few percentage points.

Seventh grade math levels dropped from 44 percent proficient to 36.1 and fifth-grade science levels dropped from 22.3 to 17.4 percent.

Other than a few slightly lower scores, the remainder of categories increased from last year, with eighth-grade reading levels jumping from 63.7 to 79.2 percent and sixth-grade math levels going up from 26.1 percent to 45.3 pecent.
