Lake Fenton scores higher than state averages, highest in Genesee County
Every subject tested in every grade level reported a higher rate of proficiency than the Michigan state average, according to 2010 results provided by the Michigan Department of Education. Lake Fenton scored 32.1 percent higher than the state average (47.8 percent proficient) in seventh grade reading with a score of 79.9. The school also scored high in eighth grade science and had a score 16 percent higher (94.1) than the state average (78.1). The scores were also the highest in Genesee County.
Reading levels drop
In every grade, reading proficiency levels dropped. However, scores were very high to begin with. Third grade reading levels dropped from 99.2 percent to 94.2 percent. Seventh grade scores decreased from 94.4 percent proficient to 89.9 percent.

Math levels rise
Lake Fenton math scores rose nearly across the board. The most improvement was seen in sixth grade as the percentage proficient increased from 83.3 to 96.5. There was also significant improvement in seventh grade as scores went from 88 percent to 93.5 percent
