Compiling sixth, seventh and eighth grade scores, Lake Fenton Middle School ranked No. 1 in the county among public schools in math, reading, writing and science. Lake Fenton had the same distinction in 2011.

Lake Fenton has chosen a slogan each of the past four years to go along with their MEAP score efforts. Leading up to the 2012 results, it was “We can.” This time around Ferguson said the theme was “Three-Peat."

The three-peat received some recognition recently as Anti-Bullying speaker Keenan West urged the students luck on their three-peat late last month during an appearance.

West even tweeted "Lake Fenton Middle and Principal Ferguson holding it down. Y'all better 3-Peat!!!!" recently.

Ferguson has credited the staff as well as the staffs from West Shore Elementary and Torrey Hill Intermediate School for preparing the students for the test. He has also mentioned how surrounding districts including Fenton, Linden and Davison have shared curriculum with the school. He noted several other factors that have contributed to the school’s success. He said core class sizes have not increased in recent years. Last year, Ferguson also credited a new behavior support system for cutting behavior problems in half.

"We truly are fortunate to have amazing children from a caring and wonderful community," Ferguson said.

Lake Fenton has invited its school community for a MEAP presentation at 8:30 a.m Wednesday at Lake Fenton Middle School.

Last year, Fenton Area Public Schools were well above the statewide average in every category as a district, according results provided by the Michigan Department of Education. Fenton's results will also be posted at 10 a.m. on Fenton Patch.
