Today we meet Kaitlin Shaw, daughter of James and Susan Shaw, who is eighth in the class with a grade-point average of 3.969.

Kaitlin has taken academically challenging classes all throughout her high school career. Some of these include AP United States History, AP Government, and all IB courses.

While taking such advanced course work, Kaitlin has also balanced a demanding extracurricular schedule. She has been a four-year member of the cross country team and the girls track team, serving as captain for both sports her senior year. Kaitlin has also dedicated a majority of her time to community service, believing that helping others is one of the most important things one can do. She has been actively involved in the National Honor Society, KEY Club and Student Council. Her role as president in KEY Club has allowed her to directly contribute to the well being of the community. Kaitlin has been a member of Student Council all four years.

This year she was elected Senior Class President and put together the Homecoming parade. She has received several awards for her volunteer work, including the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen award. Next year, Kaitlin will attend the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. To complete her undergraduate studies, she has been awarded the Transfer Option at Cornell University, where she will enter the School of Industrial and Labor Relations. Kaitlin hopes to eventually earn a degree in International Affairs and volunteer for the Peace Corps. She would like to thank her parents, James and Susan Shaw, and her siblings, Sarah, Christopher, and Grace, for all of their encouragement and support over the years.
