Throw Out the Scale

The scale. I know most of us have felt a sense of frustration with it at times. I know sometimes I feel like smashing the stupid thing! I can almost hear it mocking me sometimes.

My post today is about throwing out the scale.

I know most of us have felt a sense of frustration with it at times.

I know sometimes I feel like smashing the stupid thing!

I can almost hear it mocking me sometimes.

Then you probably have heard the saying "muscle weighs more than fat"..... Not really true. Muscle is more dense than fat and therefore takes up less space on your frame. One pound is one pound. A better way to visualize this is to think of what a pound of feathers would look like  and to think of what a pound of rocks will look like. The feathers will take up a lot more space!

If you lose three pounds of fat and gain three pounds of muscle.... Yep you guessed it. You will weigh the same, But you will look much better!

There are so many other factors involved with body weight. You’re weight will fluctuate because of water retention.

Your body will retain water and sometimes you will weigh two or three pounds more than you did the previous day, so you may be left feeling frustrated that you have put weight back on. Sometimes we get a negative attitude towards our weight loss after we see this. You may have actually lost weight but due to many things such as consuming too much salt or not drinking enough water you end up with a false reading on the scale. It is very frustrating!

Your colon can hold lots of extra pounds..if you have not been regular.

The clothing you are wearing can make a difference....jackets,shoes, jeans. It helps to wear something similar each time.

Some tips:

  • Don’t let the scale determine what your attitude will be like for the day.
  • Continue to eat healthier and exercise a little more.
  • Be aware of how you feel physically. You are getting stronger and leaner.
  • Be aware of how your clothes fit rather than what the scale’s tell you.

Throw out the scales. Hide them. Sell them, smash them– anything, just let your clothing tell you how you are doing. Because if you can fit into a slinky dress or your skinny jeans that you feel great wearing, you shouldn’t care what the scales say!

If you  must  weigh yourself, only do it once a week at the most.
