Lake Fenton Basketball Advances to District Semifinal

Blue Devils will face Linden at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The boys’ basketball team has experienced its share of heartbreak this season with a several close losses.

The Blue Devils (10-11), however, have continued to battle and came up with a 68-57 victory against South Lyon East (0-20) Monday at Stockbridge High School in the opening round of district action.

“We played a fundamentally sound game with only five turnovers and moved the ball well,” said Lake Fenton coach Matt Furey. "Our leadership on the court carried us tonight. “

Lake Fenton took a 23-11 first quarter lead and never looked back. South Lyon East did cut the gap to 34-30 at halftime, but the Blue Devils outscored the Cougars 18-11 in the third quarter to regain control.

Sean Canning led the way with 22 points, Mitch Kirk scored 16 including 8-for-11 from the free throw line. Devin Evans added 15 points.

Colin Wedesky led South Lyon East with 19 points.

Lake Fenton advances to face cross-town rival Linden at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Stockbridge High School. Fowlerville and Williamston face off in the other semifinal. The winners will meet Friday at 7:30 p.m.
