The Lake Fenton Winter Classic didn't happen on the originally scheduled dates or at the originally planned venue last year, but organizers and participants considered it a success.
They are hoping to get better cooperation from the weather this time around.
As Barnum Lake freezes over it will become the home of the Second Annual Lake Fenton Winter Classic on Jan. 18 -20. Barnum Lake is located behind The Fireplace located at 2238 North Long Lake Road.
Teams (Ages 18+) of seven will compete in a 4-on-4 game with no goalies and only pure pond hockey. In addition to pond hockey, there will be activities for the whole family. Inside the warming tents there will be food, beverages, and live entertainment. The festivities will start on Friday January 18 with a player registration party located at Fireplace. The registration party is open to the public.
There will have eight divisions including a women's division to make competitive play at all levels. The entry fee guarantees three games (weather permitting). Games will be on Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, and Sunday morning. The championship game will be played on Sunday afternoon. The winner of each division will be able to lift the Des Crowley Memorial Cup and have their team name engraved on it.
