Lake Fenton's Pass Defense Working to Improve

The Blue Devils have given up several big plays through the air this season.

Lake Fenton’s run defense has nearly been a brick wall to start the season.

The Blue Devils have slowed down the rushing attack of every team they have faced, helping the squad to a 4-1 record.

However, Lake Fenton’s defense has given up some big plays through the air.

Last Friday, the surrendered touchdown passes of 47, 30 and 10 yards, as well as several other big gains, to Beecher quarterback Antuan Burks.

“We weren’t really happy about that, but we made them one-dimensional. We really dominated up front,” Lake Fenton coach Eric Doyle said. “It was blown coverages. That’s going to happen when they throw the ball that often and they have the weapons they do.”

The secondary also made some big plays, however, as cornerback Matt Hommer had a key interception and fumble recovery.

“We had a couple problems with how far they were throwing it. They caught us in a couple defenses where we weak,” Hommer said. “We are just going to be practicing and try to get better.”

The Blue Devils will try to shore up that pass defense this Friday when they travel to Goodrich (3-2).

"Goodrich is going to be a tremendous test. They are talented, well coached and have a lot of guys back from a team last year that won our league and played a few playoff games," Doyle said.

The Martians' Nick Glowacki completed 8 of 14 passes for 75 yards and three touchdowns last week in a win against Durand. He also passed for 193 yards in a win against Lakeville, so the Blue Devils pass defense will have a tough challenge.

"We’ll have to keep them off the field and win the turnover and penalty battle," Doyle said. "It’s going to be a fun game and great opportunity for our guys to prove ourselves against one of the elite teams in our conference."
