Singin' the Spring Break Blues

Spring Break provides a hefty insight as to what is coming this summer, my first summer as a stay-at-home mom.

Ah, Spring Break. A time of new life, renewing, gearing up for the end of the school year, shopping in bulk for the Easter holidays and finding new gray hairs on your head. The latter comes as you remember why you don't offer four children three different lunch choices. You will end up making all of them, because, inevitably, no one will agree.

I will continue to scratch my head as my flabbergasted mommy list gets longer this week. I would like to know why getting children up and dressed and ready for school at 7 a.m. is so darn difficult on a school day, but on break they are up and fighting at 6:30?

Why is it that children who claim to starve in the mornings before school will survive on only an apple for breakfast during break because more than that means interfering with their games?

Who would have thought that stocking up on Lucky Charms cereal wouldn't be a good idea, because you would be the only one eating it?

Oh Spring Break, you are filled with wonder. Thoughts such as "I wonder if it's too late to sign up for summer sleep away camp" and "How can I conceivably create more fun activities, while minimizing the arguing?" fill my waking moments and my slumbering ones are spent remembering where I put the coupons that I didn't bring last week to the grocery store. (By the way - that would be on the computer desk near the printer - you know, right where they should be and the last place anyone would look.)

Oh Spring Break, your trials prepare me for the upcoming summer. I am sure many families are in the same boat, spinning around to "It's a Small World" like we do every year. No wonder the hair dye companies are still doing a booming business.

Thank you for being only a week long.
