“When the snow melts it's astonishing to see how much trash gets thrown out of windows,” Peabody said. “By doing just a little bit, we can make a huge difference in the aesthetics of our community and the health of our environment.”

The event will kick off at 10 a.m. at the Cafe of Life with a presentation on composting, watershed, and rainwater barrels and then move out onto the streets for the clean-up.

“It is going to be a really fun way to join together in community, get to know your neighbors and get involved in creating a cleaner environment,” Peabody said.

There will also be a demonstration on making your own cleaning products, activities and tattoos for the kids and light refreshments.

Biodegradable bags and gloves will be provided, but if you have work gloves, it's recommended that you bring them.

“This event is about giving back to this wonderful community and offering people an opportunity to do the same,” Peabody said. “Last year we had 15 people and were only able to cover two blocks in two hours because of the amount of trash. This year we're hoping for 50 or more.”

People driving are asked to use caution as there will be people near the roadways cleaning up trash.

The event is from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 23. For more information, call the Cafe of Life at 810-629-6023.
