Most Fenton, Lake Fenton Schools Score Well on AYP
Individual Fenton schools meet requirements, but didn't meet AYP as a district. Lake Fenton met AYP as a district, but the high school failed to reach the mark.
Today the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) released its school report cards, which includes the list of schools meeting state standards through Adequate Yearly Progress. Fenton Area Public Schools failed to meet AYP requirements for the second straight year, while Lake Fenton Community Schools made the cut. While all individual Fenton schools passed AYP, the district failed to pass because of the graduation rates of two subgroups, economically disadvantaged students and students with disabilities. My son was a student at State Road Elementary from the second through the fifth grade and he was illiterate. Last fall, I pulled him out of Fenton Public Schools and placed him in a private school that specialized in learning disabilities.
