Fenton Man Dies After Flu Symptoms, Schools Still Looking for Ways to Update Technology

There was plenty of news in the Fenton area this week.

Here is a list of the top five most interesting stories from around Fenton this week. 1. Fenton area officials released an ice warning, after the accidental death of a man in a Groveland Township lake, Fenton Patch reports. 2. A Fenton man, Kirk Beauchamp, 44, died three days after becoming ill with flu symptoms on Dec. 26, the Tri-County Times said. Beauchamp leaves his wife, Amy, and their five children. 3. Fenton Area Public Schools is looking at options for updating the district’s technology, after two failed bond votes, the Flint Journal reports. 4. Quick Change Scam, Larceny of Wallet

The following information was provided by the Fenton Police Department. An arrest does not necessarily mean a conviction.

Fenton police received a report of a quick change scam at Buffalo Wild Wings, in the 3000 block of Silver Lake Road, at 11:45 p.m. on Thursday, said Chief of Police Rick Aro. The manager at the business called police, saying a man requested change for a $100 bill from a clerk, the police report said. As the clerk began making change, the man asked for several other transactions that resulted in him scamming more than $400, Aro said. The man is described as 5 feet 10 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall, with a light complexion. He was wearing a green and gray, long-sleeved fleece shirt with a green winter hat, police said. New Year's Office and School Closings for Fenton Area Residents

Students are on holiday break; local and state government offices will close for New Year's.

The new year is approaching, and government offices will be closed for the holiday. Fenton City Hall will be closed on Jan. 1. For those who need to make payments to the city of Fenton, there is a drop box at the Fenton Police Department. In addition, the Fenton Township Office & Civic Community Center, 12060 Mantawauka Dr., will close for New Year’s on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. The office will be open for property tax collections only on Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The township’s regular office hours will begin again on Jan. 2. Fenton Area Public Schools begins classes again on Jan. 2, as does Lake Fenton Community Schools. The Michigan Secretary of State branch offices will close Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 for New Year’s. All Genesee County Schools Canceled Thursday and Friday

Citing potential threats and the hype about Dec. 21 being the end of the world, Genesse and Lapeer County schools canceled classes and activities for the remainder of the week.

In a release from Genesee Intermediate School District, classes and all in-county activities for are canceled for all schools Dec. 20 and Dec. 21. A release from the ISD states: "It is clear that last Friday changed all of us. As educators, we acknowledge, and we believe our communities would agree, that schools are at the center of concern right now. For those seeking upscale solutions to interior and exterior design, Rex Todd Rogers Design Studio has opened in Fenton. Rogers’ new business opened its doors earlier this month, at 106 W. Shiawassee Ave. He has family ties to the area and has lived in the Fenton area and Washington, D.C. for several years, Rogers said. He employs the work of local artists and craftsmen as much as possible, a cause close to his heart, he added. Fenton Police Searching for Tequila Thieves

Fenton police are searching for two suspects, a man and a woman, who might be involved with other thefts at the store on Silver Parkway, police say.

Fenton Police received a report of stolen tequila at VG’s Foods on Silver Parkway, when store personnel contacted police to make the report at 1 p.m. Friday. The incident actually occurred at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, said Chief of Police Rick Aro. Store employees told police they noticed three bottles of tequila missing on Friday and checked surveillance footage, Aro said. They discovered footage of a man and woman, both approximately 35 to 36 years old, entering the store Thursday, selecting bottles of liquor, going to another location in VG’s and concealing the liquor in their clothes, the police report said. The two left the store without paying, Aro said. VG’s provided photos of the suspects, whom police are trying to identify. The woman…
