Fenton $8.4 Million Bond Proposal Fails Again

Bond falls 595 votes short.

A Fenton bond issue failed for the second time in seven months Tuesday. The $8.4 million bond came up short after a $9.6 million bond failed in May. That bond failed by less than 200 votes. Tuesday's $8.4 million bond fell 595 votes short. There were 4,740 No (53.35 percent) compared to 4,145 Yes votes (46.65 percent). Many School Officials, Parents were Saddened by Fenton Bond Failure. The new proposal was focused on technology, school buses and increasing safety and security. It dropped all traffic and parking projects from the prior proposal and shortened the bond by two years, making the proposal more than $1 million less this time around. Residents Have Mixed Reactions to Fenton's $9.6 Million Bond

Fenton Schools would use the funds to purchase technology, school buses and improve traffic flow.

Some Fenton residents stand behind the Fenton Board of Education's application for a $9.6 million bond to be placed on the May 8 ballot. Others aren't so sure. Fenton Schools approved the proposal and in January and would use the funds to purchase technology, school buses, improve traffic flow at Andrew G. Schmidt Middle School and increase parking capacity at State Road Elementary. Additional security updates are also planned for every school building, according to the Fenton's Area Public Schools website. Many Fenton residents posted their feelings about the bond on the Fenton Patch Facebook Page. Theresa Cummings said she will support the bond for sure. "Our technology is so outdated," she said. Nope, all 3 elementary's had work on their parking lots with money from either the last bond or the bond before. And yes, I'm certain we were told no more money would be asked for a long period of time....you could search for that info in the TCT. Further, if you read the TCT it's written what cuts the Holly and Linden school districts are making. You never read that about Fenton, all you read is…   more ›
