Fenton's The Quilters Garden Offers Quality Fabric

The Quilters Garden features Batik, a hand-dyed, tightly woven cotton fabric that is easy to work with, owner says.

Carolyn Nance wanted a local source of quality quilting fabric, but when she couldn't find any place less than an hour drive away. So she decided to be that local source. Nance opened The Quilters Garden in 2000 and know sells fabric, patterns, books, and thread. She says not all of her customers are women, in fact she said she has quite a few men and even children. Nance recently submitted information through the Patch Small Business Spotlight. Here are her answers. Fenton Winery & Brewery Moving Forward at New Site

Owners have opened a homebrew and winemaking supplies store and will soon start beer production at North Long Lake Road location.

The first phase of the new Fenton Winery & Brewery location on North Long Lake is complete and the second phase is about to begin. Owners Matt and Ginny Sherrow opened a homebrew and winemaking supplies store at the former Creative Wood property at 1370 North Long Lake Road in November and business has picked up for selling ingredients, supplies and accessories. “We are starting to create traffic and talking about our plans,” Matt said. The homebrew store is open from noon until 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The Sherrows also recently received their seven-barrel brewing system and are working on starting up beer production at the new location. Creative Foam to Purchase Old Fenton Cinema

Fenton company plans to use the property for future expansion.

After several attempts from several parties to purchase the old Fenton Cinema, the building finally has a new buyer. Creative Foam has announced the purchase of the property to provide the company with an area for possible expansion. The property, at 291 North Alloy Drive had been listed at $499,900. It sits directly across the street from Creative Foam, at 300 North Alloy Drive. Creative Foam President and CEO David T. Swallow stated that the company plans to raze the old movie theater. "Because the building and surrounding improvements have been allowed to deteriorate for some years, we are excited to be able to remove the structure and clean up the lot. Fenton's Crust to Celebrate First Anniversary

The Fenton bakery opened Feb. 1, 2012.

Crust, a full-service retail and wholesale baking company located in downtown Fenton is celebrating its first anniversary with an event on Feb. 12. “We’re very grateful for the enthusiastic welcome we’ve received from Fenton and the surrounding communities and want to invite everyone to help us celebrate our one-year anniversary. Please  join us for a slice of cake and outdoor tour of the entire bakery,” said Executive Baker Mike Green. Fenton Grads Bottle First Beers at Chicago Brewery

Kevin Cary and Matt Ritchey, 2002 Fenton High School graduates, have moved forward with their brewery in Chicago, Begyle Brewing.

The beer is flowing for two 2002 Fenton graduates. Fenton natives Kevin Cary and Matt Ritchey opened Begyle Brewing in the Ravenswood Corridor in Chicago last year. The community-supported brewery business has members who commit to a monthly subscription to a variety of beers, instead of a bar, restaurant or tavern. Initially, the brewery offered beer to go or distributed kegs to bars, but recently started bottling an delivering beer. Watch the attached YouTube video for more details.
