Police say Evan James Wells punched Highland's Ronald Smith, who fell and hit his head on the cement at a Holly bar and died three days later.
Fenton resident Evan James Wells has pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges in Oakland County Circuit Court and also to being a Habitual Fourth Offender. Sentencing will take place at Oakland County Circuit Court at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 26. Wells is held at Oakland County Jail pending sentencing. Police responded to a call from Martini’s Bar & Grill in the Village of Holly for an assault complaint on Friday, Oct. 12. Officers arrived and found a 43-year-old Highland man lying unconscious outside the bar, according to Holly police. Rescue crews transported the victim, who police have identified as Ronald Smith, 43, of Highland, to Genesys Regional Medical Center, where he never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead three days later, …

Fenton Police are investigating an assault case after a 23-year-old Fenton man reported he was attacked by two other Fenton men in his apartment. Fenton Police Chief Rick Aro said the 23-year-old Fenton man told police that shortly after midnight Nov. 11, he got into an argument with two friends, who then assaulted him in an apartment on the 1000 block of Georgetown Parkway. Officers observed injuries to the victim, who was taken to the hospital by his mother for treatment, according to the report. Aro said the suspects took the man’s credit card and some cash before leaving the apartment. Fenton Police are investigating a case of identity theft in which a 23-year-old Fenton resident made a complaint that someone had opened a Consumer's Energy account under his name without his knowledge. On Feb. 28 he told police he became aware of the account, with a $308 outstanding balance at the Flint address, when he tried to open a new account at a new residence in Fenton. The man told police he never lived at the Flint address. Police will continue the investigation. Home break-ins Police have arrested a Fenton Township on charges of more than 30 home break-ins. Its very unsettling to find out that this man may only serve 4yrs for taking a life over his careless actions. I would like to know how this can even be an option as he's a habitual offender. Those who loved Ron are fighting diligently to have the maximum sentence imposed!!!   more ›
