The Open Gate Garden Club Summer Garden Tour will feature eight gardens in this year's tour, which takes place July 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check out the seven photos above to get a sneak peek of what you'll see on the tour. The eighth home (not pictured) is described below: Fenton -- This elegant new brick manor home on Lake Fenton features a circular driveway with a center courtyard garden filled with roses and a three-tier fountain. The trees include Spruce, Red Maples, and a variety of evergreen shrubs. The lakeside gardens feature pocket roses and tropical plants. Container gardening is a specialty of the couple. Tina Rutila enjoys gardening and has created a peaceful and beautiful “Garden of Eden” on Lake Fenton.
Summer showcase features fish, waterfalls and bottles included in residents' gardens.
Kathy and Jim Mikuskas' garden in Tyrone Township was full of whimsical surprises for guests on the Open Gate Garden Club's Summer Garden Tour on Sunday. Kathy Mikuska made her own "bottle tree" after admiring the work of world-renowned glass blower Dale Chihuly. Bottle trees are a Southern folk tradition, to ward off evil spirits. Kathy Mikuska created a bottle tree garden, using deep blue-colored bottles. Organizer Debbie Tegard-Harroun said all of the seven gardens on the tour were busy. A garden club member estimated around 700 people took the tour. "I think it's doing great," Tegard-Harroun said. "Everybody seems to have very positive comments, and they're happy and smiling."
