The Hamiltons never gave up on their vision of giving Fenton a snowboard and skate park. The Fenton couple, Shaun and Tera, has worked hard for more than a year to make their dream a reality. And although the facility is not completely finished, doors opened Saturday to many eager skaters and boarders. “It feels good,” Shaun said. “Not one person walked away saying it was a bad setup.” Concrete still needs to be poured in the walls and a foam pit needs to be completed, but the business was granted a 15-day temporary license to open and once it passes final inspection, it will be open for good. Fenton planning commission approves special land use proposal for facility.
A local couple is inching closer to making their dream a reality. Fenton's planning commission approved a special land use proposal to put an indoor skate and snowboard park in the city's industrial park, the Fenton Press reported Thursday night. Shaun and Tera Hamilton have told Fenton Patch that the project is sure to make every skateboarder, snowboarder and gaming enthusiast in the city and surrounding communities very happy. They want to create a facility for kids and the young at heart called "Misfit Lab," named partly for some of the negative stigma the Hamiltons said some skaters recieve. All misfits welcome! That is if a local couple can secure funding to build a snow and skate park in Fenton. Shaun and Tera Hamilton, of Fenton, believe skateboarding and snowboarding are becoming increasingly popular sports, and they plan on opening a facility named Misfit Lab to give those extreme athletes a place to call home. The Hamiltons have been working hard to make the facility reality. In order to open Misfit Lab, they need to raise $800,000 through private funds, bank loans and advertisers, which they are still searching for. Fenton Downtown Development Authority Director Michael Burns said no formal permits or requests for any reviews have been filed with the city of Fenton.
