Event will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday.
Organizers say visitors can experience the birth of Jesus at the Fenton United Methodist Church. Church officials will host a Live Nativity at 4 p.m. Sunday at 119 South Leroy Street. The adventure will take visitors back in time for a experience first-hand the birth of Jesus. The annual Living Nativity features live animals and professionally crafted scenery to provide a memorable Christmas experience. Light refreshments are offered. There is no cost.

Many hands made 95 Thanksgiving baskets fill quickly at the Fenton United Methodist Church’s Family Life Center on Tuesday. Volunteers from the Fenton High School National Honor Society, Fenton Educational Support Personnel, City of Fenton Fire Department, Fenton United Methodist Church, Loose Senior Center Community Angels and the community helped unload food and other necessities and fill boxes for people in need. Later in the day, families visited to collect their baskets, which contained a turkey, potatoes, milk, stuffing, fruit and other trimmings for Thanksgiving dinner, as well as other food and necessities for them. United Methodist Church hosts the event with 200 quilts on display.
Nimble fingers and creative minds prevailed at the Fenton United Methodist Church's recent quilt show. The quilts on display ranged from antiques from the 1800s and early 1900s, lovingly handed down through generations, to modern works of art that looked like stained glass, in one case. Quilter Jane Reed, of Fenton, said she's been sewing the blankets since 1998. Two of her quilts were among the 200 on display at the church on Friday. "I enjoy the color, the handwork, and the friends I've made," Reed said. "It's an obsession." She has no idea how many quilts she's made, but her family vies for them, she said. "They kind of leave the house pretty fast," Reed said of her quilts. "I enjoy showing them in different shows." Reed and other …

Heat wave affects Fenton area residents.
It's hot out there. The Fenton United Methodist Church is opening its facility at 119 S. Leroy St. in Fenton as a cooling center for the public if they need to escape from the extreme heat conditions, the City of Fenton website reports. In addition, Fenton's Concert in the Park for tonight, which will be by Cal Roberts, formerly of The Platters, will be in the Fenton Community and Cultural Center instead of outdoors at the Fenton Gazebo. The change is due to the extreme heat, city officials announced. The free concert will still begin at 7 p.m., in the community center at 150 S. Leroy St., Fenton.

Volunteers give out around 100 baskets.
Volunteers at Fenton United Methodist Church wanted to help make sure children in need in the area had a chance to get an Easter basket. A group gathered at the church Thursday morning to put together around 100 baskets filled with candy, eggs, toys and even a toothbrush. "Families are thrilled. They are so thankful," said organizer Teri Sydenstricker. "And we are happy to share the joy of Easter." This is the third year volunteers have gathered to put together and donate the baskets for third to eighth graders in the Fenton, Linden and Holly areas. "It's a community effort and it's fun giving back," Sydenstricker said.
