The Lake Fenton Winter Classic didn't happen on the originally scheduled dates or at the originally planned venue. Hockey tournament will take place on Barnum Lake near The Fireplace.
The bad news is the Lake Fenton Winter Classic won't be played near the Fenton Moose Lodge on Lake Fenton as originally planned. The good news is the hockey tournament will still happen on Feb. 18 and 19. After reviewing the ice conditions outside the Moose Lodge, tournament organizer Sean Lapham said the ice has been determined to be unsafe. However, there is currently four inches of ice on Barnum Lake near The Fireplace, where the tournament will be moved. "We have been granted permission from the owner to utilize their public access," Lapham posted on Facebook. "My ice rink building crew has pumps and sprayers so that we can start building more ice with the cold days." Lapham said he had trouble sleeping because of anxiety to whether …

Organizer Sean Lapham says ice won't be thick enough by Jan. 27.
With ice only about an inch thick, the Lake Fenton Winter Classic has been delayed to the backup dates of Feb. 17-19. Hockey tournament organizer Sean Lapham said while temperatures are expected to drop in the next several days, the ice will not be thick enough by the time of the originally scheduled tournament days of Jan. 27 - Jan. 29. He said he wants the ice eight or nine inches thick for safety due to the amount of people and equipment that will be out there. Lapham measured the ice on Lake Fenton Sunday in two places at one inch and a half inch and there was also open water on the lake outside the Fenton Moose Lodge, where the tournament will be held. "The hardest part was when I went out there yesterday and realized it wasn't …

Thursday, January 12, 2012
It's been a good ride these past couple weeks as Michigan residents enjoyed unseasonably warm weather – some in Troy even hit the links to play a round of golf on Friday – but we knew the mild weather just couldn't last. Today, rain will change over to a mix of rain and snow as temperatures fall from a high near 42 degrees to just above freezing by late afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac. The mix will then change over to all snow after 10 p.m. Snow accumulation of around an inch to two inches is possible overnight, and winds will pick up to between 7 and 15 m.p.h. with gusts as high as 21 m.p.h. Friday will be much cooler with a high near 29 and a low around 16. Winds will continue between 16 and 20 m.p…

Lake Fenton Winter Classic scheduled for Jan. 27 - 29, if lake freezes in time.
When Sean Lapham started organizing the inaugural Lake Fenton Winter Classic he knew he had to worry about countless things. How many people would sign up? Would he get any sponsors? Would everyone have fun? One thing he didn’t plan on worrying about at the end of January was if Lake Fenton was going to be frozen enough for the pond hockey tournament. However, the weather conditions have become a major concern. “It’s basically one of the things I’ve been losing sleep over every night,” Lapham said. “There’s still open water.” The hockey tournament is scheduled for Jan. 27 -29 outside the Fenton Moose Lodge on Lake Fenton, but Lapham has also made backup dates for Feb. 17 – 19, just in case the ice isn’t ready. Temperatures dropped early…
