Fenton Township Shooting Victim Testifies 'I Know That’s Him That Shot Me'

David Eddie Collins sat in an orange jumpsuit and chains shaking his head Wednesday as Robert Johnson testified that Collins broke into his home, robbed him and shot him April 14 in Fenton Township. Johnson said he and Collins, 23, of Flint, exchanged gunfire that day on the 13000 block of Linden Road in the preliminary exam in front of Judge Mark McCabe in 67th District Court in Flint. “I was trying to kill him because he was in my house trying to kill me,” Johnson told the court. “It was my life or his life.” McCabe bound the case over to circuit court after hearing Johnson’s testimony. Police Charge Man in Fenton Township Shooting

David Eddie Collins faces life in prison on armed robbery, home invasion charges.

Police have charged a 23-year-old Flint man for his suspected involvement with a shooting at a Fenton Township home on April 14. Genesee County Sheriff’s Capt. Terence Green said police arrested David Eddie Collins on April 30 during another incident at a Flint home. Green said Collins became a suspect after it was discovered he received medical treatment at Hurley Hospital for a gunshot to the hand on April 17.   He said the victim, Robert Johnson, and the suspects exchanged gunfire on April 14, when the suspects broke into the home looking for money.   Randy Johnson said his son posted a picture of $5,000 in a box on Facebook and when the men entered the home, they asked him where the money was. Sheriff's Department Returns to Fenton Township Shooting Scene

It appeared police were collecting more evidence from the scene.

Several Genesee County Sheriff's Department cars were parked on the scene of Saturday's Fenton Township shooting on Tuesday. Police said there was nothing new in the investigation and declined to comment further. It appeared officers were collecting evidence from the scene. One officer was looking closely at the front door of the home, which still had blood showing Sunday morning after what police believe may have been a shootout Saturday night at the home on the 13000 block of Linden Road. There were police dogs on scene. There was also a bag of what appeared to be clothing sitting near a police car. Police arrived around 12:30 p.m. and stayed on the scene for several hours. Facebook Picture of $5,000 Leads to Fenton Township Robbery, Shooting

Randy Johnson said his son was shot twice Saturday night by men who broke into his home on Linden Road.

Three men broke into a Fenton Township home seeking $5,000 that was posted in a picture on Facebook. The Fenton Township family is shocked after three men entered the home on the 13000 block of Linden Road Saturday and shot resident Robert Johnson in the back and leg after demanding the money and tearing apart boxes looking for it. Randy Johnson said his son Robert Johnson, 23, was alone in the home around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night when men broke in through the back door and demanded money. Randy Johnson said several shots were fired, including two that struck his son in the back and his leg and three shots that struck his dog. Both are back home recovering after receiving treatment.
