President Barack Obama was sworn in today for a second term in office. The day was historic in that Obama is one of just a handful of men who have been re-elected to lead the United States. But also that his swearing in fell on the annual celebration of Martin Luther King Jr's birthday and in the 50th anniversary year of King's March on Washington to deliver the "I Have a Dream" speech. Today's festivities included a 19-minute speech from the president in which he gave a shout out to southeast Michigan when he said, "Our journey is not complete until all our children from the streets of Detroit to the hills of Appalachia to the quiet lanes of Newtown, know that they are cared for, and cherised, and always safe from harm." In our first Blue Mitten survey, most respondents say they agree that President Barack Obama's support for the 2009 auto bailout will help him in Michigan in the November election.
Democratic Michigan insiders said President Barack Obama’s auto bailout will help his chances in the state in the November election: that’s the finding of this week’s inaugural Blue Mitten survey of influential Democrats. Twenty-nine Democrats from the southeastern Michigan area were asked using an automated survey tool what they thought about how the auto bailout will affect Obama’s standing among Democrats and independents in Michigan. Eighteen responses were collected. All of the respondents said they agree or somewhat agree the bailout will help Obama win over Democrats in Michigan. Gerych's Distinctive Flowers & Gift voted as Fenton's best florist.
Big enough to design a dinner for President Barack Obama, small enough to cater to Fenton’s needs. Jon Gerych, owner of Gerych’s Distinctive Flowers & Gifts designed the flowers for Obama’s $1 million dinner at Denise Ilitch’s, daughter of Mike and Marian Ilitch, Bingham Farms home on April 18. During the last two weeks, Fenton Patch readers also voted the Fenton florist as the area’s best. Gerych's won the poll with 41 votes. Fenton Flowers had 17 votes and Yard 'N Garden had 14. “Both are a great honor,” Gerych said. Gerych said helping out with the Obama dinner came about when Ilitch, a longtime customer, gave him a call. “You get a reputation in the industry,” Gerych said. “She called us and asked us to take care of the flowers.” The …
