No Criminal Charges to be Filed Against ReSale 360 Owners

Police say money owed was put back into business, not spent for personal use.

The ReSale 360 investigation has concluded and no criminal charges will be brought against the owners of the store. Fenton Police Chief Rick Aro said officers compiled and reviewed hundreds of transaction records as well as the financial records of the business and gave the evidence to the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office, which determined that the matters raised in the complaints received were not criminal in nature. Police recieved more than 100 complaints from people that said they were owed money or property from the shop that went out of business in March. The disputes surfaced because consignment shop owners and consignors, who bring in items they want to sell, usually split the proceeds from their item sales 50/50 with the store. …

New Fenton Consignment Shop to Open in Former ReSale 360 Space

Former ReSale 360 employee will run Twice New Consignments.

A new consignment shop will open June 11 in the former ReSale 360 space on Silver Lake Road. Tanya Bristol and her husband Sebastian have been busy preparing Twice New Consignments after signing a lease for the location last week. Bristol worked at ReSale 360 for more than two years. ReSale 360 closed its doors on March 25 and a police investigation followed because many consignors said the store owners owed them money or property. The disputes arose because consignment shop owners and consignors, who bring in items they want to sell, usually split the proceeds from their item sales 50/50 with the store. Sebastian said they lost a few hundreds dollars in the situation as well. The Fenton Police are still investigating the case. Bristol …

New Case Added to the ReSale 360 Investigation

The Genesee County Prosecutor's Office has requested more information from Fenton Police.

A new incident has been added to the more than 100 complaints regarding the ReSale 360 consignment shop that went out of business in March. Fenton Police Chief Rick Aro said a South Lyon resident told police Tuesday she had consigned a glass table and four chairs with the store in January. She reported the item had sold for $225 on March 19 and that owners told her she would received a check for $112, because of a 50/50 agreement on the item. She told police she never received the check, however, and was unaware the store went out of business until recently. Aro said detectives have submitted information on the cases to the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office, which requested some additional investigation from Fenton Police. Aro has said …

Police Moving Forward with ReSale 360 Investigation

Chief Rick Aro said detectives will begin re-interviewing those owed around $1,000 first.

Fenton Police have moved forward with the investigation into the ReSale 360 complaints. Fenton Police Chief Rick Aro said more than 100 complaints have been filed from people who say they are owed money or property from the consignment shop. He said detectives will soon be re-interviewing complainants that are owed the larger amounts of money or property. Aro said the largest cases are people who say they owed around $1,000. Aro previously said police gave owner Donna Hitz a chance to give back the items and money before the investigation continued, but said they are now moving forward with the investigation to see if owners and complainants reached any type of agreement. “We are going to sit down with people and get both sides of the …

Fenton Police Have Received More than 80 Complaints About ReSale 360

Police Chief says owners will be given opportunity to return items before investigation continues.

The number of complaints from residents stating they are owed money or property has increased to more than 80, police said. ReSale 360 owner Donna Hitz has continued to return merchandise to consignors and hoped to have most of the items out of the store by Saturday. However, she said it has been a tedious process gathering more than 3,000 items and scheduling with consignors to pick up the items. Fenton Police Chief Rick Aro said police will give Hitz a chance to give back the items before the investigation continues. Whitney, Obviously you weren't in the parking lot the day that I was. There weren't any notes on the door from consignors. And the behavior of the women from the salon was sufficient to incite anger. I almost said something to her but didn't b/c I didn't want her anger turned unto to me. Bad enough I had a consignor make a rude comment to me.   more ›

ReSale 360 Owners Hope to Have Store Clear by Saturday

Donna Hitz said all she can do is give people their things back.

ReSale 360 owner Donna Hitz has continued to return merchandise to consignors and hopes to have most of the items out of the store by Saturday. On Thursday, Hitz met with a Fenton couple that gathered two carloads of items. She also had to tell a consignor at the door looking to claim an item that it had been sold and she didn’t have the funds to refund the money. “There is nothing more I can do than give things back,” Hitz said. She said she has gathered as many items as possible and many of people’s collections are ready to pick up. Consignors are asked to email Donna.Hitz@Gmail.com to make an appointment. Hitz said she has an account of every transaction made in the store and a list of every consignor’s items. Those items are spread out…

Very well said Whitney. Yes, they absolutely lied, and told their employees to lie for them. Yes, they took stuff in, and sold stuff right up until the day they closed, with absolutely no warning to consignors. Jane, your comment above of "stuff sat in her store for up to 90 days costing her money for utilities and costing the consigner NOTHING" is laughable. Are you kidding? As consignors we …   more ›

It’s going to take the rest of the week,” Hitz said. “It’s hard to do, there is so much here.” Consignment shop owners and consignors, who bring in items they want to sell, usually split the proceeds from their item sales 50/50 with the store. Rude is putting it kindly. Sketchy business practices as well. Untruthful about metal contents of NEW jewelry which is illegal as well as unscrupulous! Epic fail and I can honestly say as a family that had a shop 6+ times that size that with all merchandise on consignment and what they may have sold off online they should have had no problem staying in business. My guess is their rudeness drove …   more ›
