Fenton Man is Associate Producer on ‘Meltdown’ Action Thriller

Eric Szczepanski, a member of Fenton High School’s Class of 2006, would like to see a film come to Fenton someday, he says.

Fenton grad Eric Szczepanski has had some neat experiences during his career in the film industry, including an introduction to Henry Winkler and helping film a music video of Nikki Minaj and BOB in Detroit. His first feature film, ‘Meltdown,’ in which Szczepanski was associate producer, has been released on DVD. Meltdown, an action thriller, is by Cinema Vision Pictures LLC in association with ITN Distribution. Written and directed by Christopher J. Martin, it’s described as an action thriller film about a federal agent who goes deep undercover to bring down a crime syndicate. When the agent’s cover is blown and he gets burned by the FBI, his only hope is a female agent who’s willing to break all of the rules. Outnumbered and outgunned, …

Fenton Applefest Road Race Winners Announced

Events included 5K run, 5K walk, 10K run and 1-mile run/walk; also a 'Core-ter Mile' fun event for youngsters.

The winners of the St. John Applefest Road Races included some familiar names from the Fenton area. Lisa Veneziano, 47, of Fenton, was the female overall 10K winner in 39:06, with Kirk Walrath, 42, of Fenton, winning the male masters title in 34:10. The 10K male overall winner was Kreg Hatfield, 34, of Flint, in 33:14, and the female masters winner was Kathy Sndyer, 48, of Flushing, in 43:00. The female overall winner for the 5K run was Suzanne Larsen, 34, of Fenton, in 17:06, while her husband, Eric Larsen, 41, was the male masters winner in 17:27. Sean Rosalez, 22, of Davison, won the 5K run in 16:56. Seryozha Gerkov took second in the 5K run men's category in 17:00, while Pamela Rynearson was second in the women's category in 19:44. …

Law Enforcement Officials Rally in Fenton for Patrick O'Rourke

An estimated 2,000 to 3,000 members of law enforcement and the community turned out to support slain Officer Patrick O'Rourke and his family. St. John Catholic Church in Fenton held services on Friday morning for O'Rourke, 39, of Fenton, a member of the parish. Police attended from the Fenton area and beyond to honor O'Rourke. They included Pennsylvania State Police, federal Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents; Royal Mounted Police from Canada and officers from Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. O'Rourke's department, the West Bloomfield Police Department, had many representatives, along with Metroparks officers, police from the University of Michigan-Flint and area municipalities such as Argentine, Linden and Fenton. Volunteers, Staff Help Patrick O'Rourke's Funeral Run Smoothly

Salvation Army, Applefest volunteers, St. John Catholic Church staff and police are among those who helped.

As thousands gathered to honor Officer Patrick O'Rourke, the Fenton resident and West Bloomfield policeman who was killed Sunday, many others worked hard to make sure the funeral went smoothly. Sgt. Dave Reinfelder, of the Fenton Police Department, said all of the city's police officers were on duty. They began directing traffic at 7 a.m. and closed Adelaide Street, from North Road to Silver Lake Road, at 7:15 a.m. "The whole police department in Fenton is working to make sure this goes as smoothly as possible," Reinfelder said. 40th Annual Fenton Applefest Opens to the Public

St. John Catholic School students are among the first to get in.

Children from St. John Catholic School gathered around the Rev. David Harvey for a blessing before hurrying off to enjoy the 40th annual Applefest. As Harvey, dressed in black with a porkpie hat, led the group in prayer, clouds uncovered the sun. Volunteers brightened as well, and the festival opened Thursday afternoon. Applefest is a chance to meet many people and see many one doesn't usually see, said Dave McDermott, who is one-half of this year's new General Chaircouple. The McDermotts moved to Fenton six years ago from New Jersey. Sara McDermott grew up in Linden, and their family returned to her hometown area. Fenton Police Expect Thousands to Attend West Bloomfield Officer's Funeral

Several roads will be closed Friday morning and there will be heavy traffic in the area.

Heavy traffic and road closures are planned Friday near St. John's Catholic Church, as thousands gather for Officer Patrick O'Rourke's funeral. O'Rourke, 39, of Fenton and a West Bloomfield police officer, was killed in the line of duty on Sunday. Fenton police have talked with residents and the schools, and they are aware of the traffic situation, said Chief of Police Rick Aro. North Adelaide Street will be closed from 7:15 a.m. to 2 p.m., between Silver Lake Road and North Road. In addition, Silver Lake Road between the U.S. 23 ramps and Leroy Street will be very congested from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. with patrol cars, friends and family members attending O'Rourke's funeral, Aro said. Fenton Roads to be Closed for Patrick O'Rourke's Funeral

Tyrone Township resident and West Bloomfield Police officer Patrick O'Rourke will be remembered with services at St. John's Catholic Church Friday.

Funeral arrangements have been made for Officer Patrick John O'Rourke, 39, of Fenton, and several roads will be closed in Fenton during services. O'Rourke passed away in the line of duty on Sunday. He was a 12-year veteran of the West Bloomfield Police Department who was killed by a barricaded gunman. Fenton City Council observed a moment of silence for him on Monday. "He was a wonderful family man, and we do give our condolences to the family," said Mayor Sue Osborn. O'Rourke was married to Amy and they have four children, Eileen, Mary, Andrea and Stephen, his obituary said. The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, at St. John's Catholic Church, 600 N.
