Near White-out Conditions Cause Several Vehicle Crashes in Fenton

At least five crashes occur in less than an hour near Fenton, and also a 33-car pileup north of Fenton on US 23, hours after a horrific crash in Detroit.

Near white-out conditions caused several accidents in Fenton and several crashes across the region Thursday afternoon. Most of the Fenton accidents happened between 12 and 1 p.m. when the weather conditions worsened. Fenton Police Lt. Jason Slater said two accidents occurred near the US 23 exit ramp and Torrey Road. He said one involved two cars and another was a single car accident. Slater said another single accident occurred on North Road near the Fenton Water Plant. He said the driver went off the road. I've noticed that the roads aren't salted as often this year. When I used to travel to Flint to work at about 5:30 in the morning on 23, 23 was often one of the last expressways to be salted....I often asked myself...who makes these decisions? Man Killed in Tyrone Township Crash

47-year-old Michael Herrell, of Flint, was killed after losing control on icy roads and striking a semi trailer on US 23.

A Flint man was killed Wednesday morning in a car accident that closed a US-23 ramp in Tyrone Township for three hours, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Department. Police said that 47-year-old Michael Herrell lost control of his 1997 Chevrolet S-10 on icy roads while exiting the freeway at Center Road. Herrell struck the rear of a 2003 Hyundai 53-foot semi-trailer that was parked on the shoulder of the off ramp and was killed. The driver of the semi truck, 51-year-old Melvin Roe of Rhodes, was not injured in the crash and alcohol does not appear to be a factor, police said. Woman Sent to Hospital with Head Injury after US 23 Crash

Two cars collide around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Rescue crews transported a woman to the hospital with a head injury after a two-car collision on US 23 near North Road around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Fenton Police Lt. Jason Slater said he was assisting a driver of a broke down vehicle on US 23, causing traffic to move to the fast lane. Slater said the driver of one vehicle continued past him in the fast lane at a high rate of speed and rear-ended another vehicle. The crash caused the vehicle that was rear-ended to lose control, moving it across the highway and off to the side of the road. Crews transported the driver of the first vehicle to Genesys Regional Medical Center after she complained of a head injury. She was conscious and alert, Slater said. Man Sent to Hospital after Motorcycle Crash on US 23 in Fenton

Traffic from earlier incident may have contributed to crash.

Rescue crews transported a man to the hospital after a motorcycle crash on US 23 south near Silver Lake Road in Fenton Sunday. Fenton Fire Lt. Jeff Shook said a man was driving his Harley Davidson south on US 23 around 3 p.m. when he lost control and went off the road. Shook said the man injured his shoulder and emergency crews transported him to Hurley Hospital. Shook said the man likely came over the hill and tried to slow down for traffic backed up from the crash earlier on US 23. The man was wearing a helmet, shook said.

Crash Shuts Down Traffic on US 23 in Fenton Township

Southbound 23 was closed for hours after crash.

A vehicle accident shut down traffic on US 23 South for hours after a crash on Sunday afternoon in Fenton Township. Flint Police Operations posted that a vehicle being towed by an RV overturned. Genesee County 911 Consortium posted that the crash occurred around noon on US 23 near Lahring Road. Emergency officials diverted southbound traffic to Northbound US 23. The highway was re-opened around 2 p.m. No major injuries have been reported. Traffic from the incident may have contributed to another crash on US 23 that occurred around 3 p.m..

Man Dies After Being Ejected from Motorcycle on US 23

Christopher Muncy, 53, of White Lake died on scene after being hit by several cars on U.S. 23 in Hartland near Crouse Road, police say.

A 53-year-old White Lake man died at the scene of a traffic crash Wednesday after he lost control his motorcycle and was ejected into traffic, according to a press release from the Livingston County Sheriff's Department. Police say that Christopher Muncy was driving his 2006 Honda motorcycle on U.S. 23, just north of Crouse Road in Hartland, around 10 p.m. on Sept. 12 when he lost control of the motorcycle and was hit by several cars in the left lane of southbound U.S. 23, according to the report. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The first vehicle that struck Muncy initially stopped, according to the report, but left prior to emergency vehicles arriving on scene.  Police are asking for help identifying the missing vehicle which based …

We are team truck drivers, we came thru there around 11pm..had to exit at #70 (Clyde Rd.) and took the service drive up to the next on ramp. As we drove down the service drive we saw several semi's and vehicles.
