Salvation Army, Applefest volunteers, St. John Catholic Church staff and police are among those who helped.
As thousands gathered to honor Officer Patrick O'Rourke, the Fenton resident and West Bloomfield policeman who was killed Sunday, many others worked hard to make sure the funeral went smoothly. Sgt. Dave Reinfelder, of the Fenton Police Department, said all of the city's police officers were on duty. They began directing traffic at 7 a.m. and closed Adelaide Street, from North Road to Silver Lake Road, at 7:15 a.m. "The whole police department in Fenton is working to make sure this goes as smoothly as possible," Reinfelder said. And the Genesee County Sheriff's Department provided several deputies to help with traffic control. The funeral service took place at St. John Catholic Church in Fenton during the 40th annual Applefest, so …

Several roads will be closed Friday morning and there will be heavy traffic in the area.
Heavy traffic and road closures are planned Friday near St. John's Catholic Church, as thousands gather for Officer Patrick O'Rourke's funeral. O'Rourke, 39, of Fenton and a West Bloomfield police officer, was killed in the line of duty on Sunday. Fenton police have talked with residents and the schools, and they are aware of the traffic situation, said Chief of Police Rick Aro. North Adelaide Street will be closed from 7:15 a.m. to 2 p.m., between Silver Lake Road and North Road. In addition, Silver Lake Road between the U.S. 23 ramps and Leroy Street will be very congested from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. with patrol cars, friends and family members attending O'Rourke's funeral, Aro said. Between 1,500 and 3,000 police officers could attend the …

Funeral services for Officer Patrick O'Rourke, 39, of Fenton, will take place at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Friday morning.
Patrick O'Rourke may have been known as a respected police officer in West Bloomfield, but the people in his hometown of Fenton also remember him as faithful churchgoer and good citizen. David Harvey, a priest a St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Fenton, remembers the slain police officer as a family man. Harvey performed the wedding ceremony for O'Rourke and his wife, Amy. He also performed Baptismal Masses for their four children, three girls and a boy. The youngest, the O'Rourkes' son, had his Baptismal Mass in January. The second-oldest daughter received her First Communion on the same date. "I was very involved in their marriage," Harvey said. "He was a very, very faithful parishioner here." O'Rourke was a 12-year veteran of …

The shooter that police say shot and killed a Fenton resident and West Bloomfield police officer has not been named and is believed to barricaded in a home.
The shooter believed responsible for killing a West Bloomfield Police officer and hitting several others may have been going through a divorce, Township Clerk Cathy Shaughnessy said Monday. The suspect is still unnamed and believed to be barricaded in a house in a West Bloomfield subdivision near Halsted and Pontiac Trail and was firing shot as late as this morning. Patrick O'Rourke, a Fenton resident and 12-year veteran of the West Bloomfield force, was shot and killed Sunday night as he and others were responding to shots fired at the house 4000 block of Forest Edge. According to Shaughnessy, the officers heard one shot fired and thought it was a possible suicide as they entered the home. "... they thought a man had killed himself. They …
