Recipe: Cider Braised Chicken Thighs With Sweet Potatoes

Warm up this winter with a tasty dish full of seasonal flavors.

During the bland months of winter I like to eat foods with a lot of flavor, so I tend to cook recipes that are hearty and will make my taste-buds dance. This recipe for cider braised chicken thighs has a lot of delicious flavors. The cider adds a subtle sweetness to the chicken, and the spices, along with the cider, create a great sauce. This dish is also fairly healthy and a great meal for anyone trying to keep that New Year's Resolution. To make this recipe you'll need: To start, season both sides of the chicken with 1 teaspoon salt and pepper. Heat the oil in a large nonstick skillet over high heat. Brown the chicken in batches, flipping once, about 2 minutes per side; set aside. Next, reduce the heat to medium and add the shallots and …

Weeknight Meal: Smothered Chicken with Red Potatoes

Another Crock Pot meal, this recipe makes a great weeknight meal and is big enough to easily feed a family of four.

For those who don't know, I've joined a roller derby team ... and it's awesome. Unfortunately for my husband, that means I am gone twice a week for practice in Mt. Clemens, and he must fend for himself for dinner. In hopes of easing his suffering, I threw together a recipe I found on Pinterest for smothered chicken. To make this recipe you'll need the following: To start, cut the chicken into bite size chunks and quickly brown in a small amount of olive oil on the stove. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside. Next, saute the onion until almost soft. Add the mushrooms and the garlic, …

Warm Up With Beer-Braised Chicken

More than just a drink, beer and its complex flavors makes a wonderful ingredient for stews.

I really enjoy cooking with beer. It adds wonderful flavor to stews and sauces, and it's very fragrant so any meal you make with beer will smell amazing. As March, and St. Patrick's Day, inches closer I find myself using beer in a lot of dishes - when I came across a recipe for beer-braised chicken, I couldn't pass it up. This recipe calls for a brown ale, but you can make it with whatever beer you have on hand. I don't drink alcohol often, and cooking with beer and wine is a great way to use up those beverages you might have left over from Super Bowl parties. To make this recipe you'll need: To start, chop the onions, carrots and potatoes. Next, slice the bacon. Heat a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the bacon and cook until browned…
