Heavy Snow, Frigid Wind Chills Pushing Real-Feel Temps to -35 Cancel Schools Tuesday

Fenton Area Public Schools will be closed Tuesday after Winter Storm Hercules dumped about 17inches of snow – the biggest snowstorm in nearly 40 years – on the area.

Snowfall totals in Genesee County ranged from 13.9 inches in Grand Blanc to 18 inches at Swartz Creek, according to the National Weather Service. Flint received 17.1 inches.

The Flint Journal reported that th 17.1 inches recorded at Flint’s Bishop International Airport made it the third-largest storm ever recorded for the area.

The most snow ever recorded for the area was 22.7 inches on Jan. 26-26, 1967. On April 2-3, 1975, 17.3 inches of snow fell on the area according to the National Weather Service.

The heavy snowfall is over, but now Fenton is bracing for the coldest temperatures in two decades, with wind chill values of as low as 35 degrees below zero forecast.
